Whole Home Renovation - Before and After

If you have a living room renovation project in mind and want to add light, usable space and an overall updated look, our whole home remodeling services can deliver! This Madison client was looking for more light and open space in her living and dining area. With the kids getting bigger, this family room was no longer an efficient use of space and it was rather dark.

By removing the partition wall and adding a large bay window we created a new brighter space. The client is very happy with the way the new space functions and how much light shines through this widely used area of the home.  Our renovation process always takes into consideration the family's lifestyle and goals.  A little planning goes a long way!

Some of our clients are looking for unique kitchen tile ideas. They'd like a kitchen that is artistic in design, offers a different kitchen look, and that works with the character of the home but can be found nowhere else. For this Victorian we created a coffered ceiling with a mosaic inlay.

The mosaic depicts a Harvest Wreath, a sign of abundance and health. It is made from marble, travertine, and river rock.

With the option for back light, this piece can take a back seat or center stage in the kitchen. These types of projects are not a perfect fit for every home, but when called for they can create a very unique space.

At Artisan Remodeling we believe that we are adept at creating any space, anywhere. No matter how unique your idea is, big or small, just give us a call and let us show you what we can do.

We feel like we are lucky enough to work on the best homes for bathroom and kitchen remodeling!  Our clients love their homes and want unique bathroom designs and expert craftsmanship to deliver the new bathroom they've been wanting.

For this beautiful old Victorian bathroom remodel, the client chose a clean look for the bathroom which matches the old house feel and adds some interesting touches. The chrome accents and wall sconces give the room a simple, classy look. The Onyx floor mosaic is a contemporary material with an old time twist.

One of the most interesting things about working on the bathroom was the surprise that awaited us in the attic.  The tub was reclaimed from the attic and after some repair, repainting and a new faucet it looks and functions great!  That's not something you find everyday, but that's what makes home remodeling in Madison such a pleasure.

Best bathroom remodeling surprise was finding an antique tub in the attic!

Certified Lead Free Contractor

When planning a home renovation in one of Madison's beautiful older neighborhoods, special consideration should be given to safely handling lead paint.  Any remodeling project on a home built before 1978 is at risk for having lead paint on the walls.  According to the Wisconsin Department of health, lead exposure in young children can cause a range of health and behavioral effects. To help eliminate this risk Wisconsin has created a program to certify home builders and renovation companies.

As you choose a home remodeler or builder in Madison, ask if they are a Certified Lead Free Contractor.  With this certification you can feel confident that when construction begins  on your kitchen, bathroom, or other living space they will use safe methods to handle any lead paint.  It may take a little extra research, but having the right contractor will make your home renovation not only beautiful but safe!

Monona Terrace Home Show

Over the weekend of January 7th, Artisan Remodeling LLC was part of the Home Show at the Monona Terrace. The show was fantastic for us as we had the opportunity to meet many great people and discuss project potentials. Unlike many booths with a standard setup we decided to make ours unique. The Cabinet Centre (behind Mccormick Lumber) was part of our booth with a kitchen mock-up demonstrating many of the unique features they offer.

Redesign and staging specialist Beth Swanson of Swanson Events created the look that we were hoping for with her great staging skills and a splash of color. Overall the event was a huge success and we are already designing projects brought up at the show. Thanks to everyone for making it a huge success!

WHILE YOU WERE GONE...

I have been busy so the blog posts have suffered, but I will continue to keep everybody up to speed on the happenings of Artisan Remodeling, LLC.
This post has to do with timing. Below is a bathroom that was mostly gutted and remodeled in the span of 2 weeks over the Christmas break. The homeowners were away for 2 weeks and agreed to have me and the guys remodel their bathroom while they were away. Usually these types of projects take twice as long, but with proper preparation and timing we pulled a great bathroom remodel off with the homeowners out of town. They left the old bath behind and returned to a brand new bathroom with all of their chosen fixtures and colors in place at the original price quote. This type of project requires good communication between contractor and client and a great deal of trust. Since I don't normally have a problem with either of those it was a go from the start. Working on a 90 yr. old home can be tricky. There are lead paint requirements as well as not a straight wall in sight, but we are used to this and the process of making it look good.

Below are some of the finished project photos as well as Brock, the tile guy in the middle of a work day. Artisan Remodeling prides itself in working with friendly, hard working, conscientious, legal contractors, and Brock fits the bill. The orange material you see behind the tile is called Kerdi matte, a Schluter product. It is a complete waterproofing membrane mortared to the wall before tile. This provides complete water proofing for your shower. A shower should always have some sort of water proofing surface beneath the tile and over the substrate. The storage cabinet is a great way to add functional storage while not using up a great deal of space. This becomes especially useful with a pedestal sink.

Thanks for visiting and we will see you on the next one! Mike

Basement Remodeling 101

Hello again from Artisan Remodeling LLC.!

Today we are talking basements. Fixing up a dungy basement is not as bad as it sounds. Simple fixes can go a long way. Insulating the walls is a key component in a basement remodel as the concrete foundation walls are often cold and uninviting. Covering up plumbing and unsightly basement necessities, but still maintaining access, can create unique spaces such as this entertainment nook with closet. New lighting and new windows with white window wells help accentuate the natural light that already exists by bouncing it off of the well and ceiling. Just like your attic, the basement can be a great addition of comfortable space, it just takes a critical eye and an idea of how you might want to use it.

Thanks for visiting! Mike

What's in the Attic?

Many homes here in the Madison area have an upstairs "storage area". It really doesn't take much to transform that space into a cozy, usable living space. Here is a great example of how a space can change and still maintain the hidden storage ares as well. Recessing the furniture is a great way to maintain floor space while keeping the functionality of a favorite piece of furniture. An entertainment center is a popular option as well. Don't forget to measure twice before framing! After the demolition phase, adding electrical improvements and new insulation really add to the function and feel of the new space. You will be amazed at what can be added to your home by remodeling a space like this. Thanks for checking in! Mike
